Highly Efficient Filtering Power Amplifier Using Impedance Area-Based Optimization

This paper presents an optimization method of wideband filtering power amplifier (PA) with high efficiency. In order to achieve the expected efficiency in wide passband and reduce design difficulty, a high-performance area-based impedance target for computer-aided automatic is proposed, which avoids unexpected degradation caused by conventional target. meanwhile, out-of-band described also proposed obtain bandpass characteristic. The in-band targets are utilized output matching network realize fundamental harmonic precisely, as well response. For demonstration, PA operating 3.3-3.8 GHz implemented measured. measured small-signal $S$ -parameter exhibits flat gain good power-added (PAE) larger than 62% within entire working band highest PAE 71.7%.
